My inspiration for building this site was a video that I saw on YouTube. The picture to the left is a model called the Carbon Knap V2 designed by Matus Knap. His design goal was to create a model airplane that would be as light as possible to give the best STOL (Short Take Off Landing) performance. He achieved that goal. Watch the video. The Carbon Knap is constructed from foam board, a lightweight, inexpensive building material. After viewing his video I began to do some research on the Internet and found a wealth of information for this building method especially the FliteTest web site. FliteTest offers Speed Build Kits that are laser cut water resistant foam board models that you assemble. They have free downloadable plans for all of their kits and a large variety of products and resources for the model builder, drones included! The resources include videos on their YouTube Channel with step-by-step instructions for each of their models as well as general building tips. If you are a long time balsa builder and want to try foam board, you will need to learn a few new techniques such as using hot glue. If you are not a model builder but would like to be, then try foam board models. Foam board is an exciting new area in R/C modeling.
