Stick Fuselage Details

Posted on August 13, 2019 by funkhouser Posted in Scratch Building, FT Simple Scout 5 Comments

At the point where I am finishing the fuselage. Without the foam board top rear of the fuselage, the back end of the turtle deck has no support. You might add a cross member right where the turtle deck ends. And on the bottom of the fuselage you might cut the foam board to include the tail skid and end at the last cross member.

Thanks. I built balsa models for many years and it was a good preparation for building with foam; measuring, alignment, building pins, gluing.

I do feel like I missed something, not doing Balsa Models…
In that same period, since 1975, I’ve been into Model Railroading. Picked up an entirely different skillset there.

One of the skills that you picked up is measuring and understanding measurements. Here is something you wrote, “and using 5/64″ I.D. Nylon Tube,” Many people would read that and have no idea what you are talking about Carmine. People have skills that they take for granted; assume that everyone has those skills. Not true. And understanding how to measure distances, angles, thickness of materials etc. are some of the most important model building skills no matter what kind of models you are building. And you have those skills my friend.

            Thanks! I appreciate that.
I worked on Jet Engines in the Air Force…
But my most relevant experience (to this Hobby), might be Model Railroading! I worked in tiny measurements and precise tolerances in both. 😉
